CATS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF OUR THROW-AWAY SOCIETY.

VICTIM OF OUR THROW-AWAY SOCIETY: DO YOU RECOGNISE THIS LOST CAT FOUND IN TABLE VIEW RECENTLY?

THE SHAME OF OUR THROW-AWAY SOCIETY.

PLEASE ensure your pets are identifiable

EVERY SINGLE DAY WE GET PHONE-CALLS, SMS'S AND EMAILS FROM DISTRESSED ANIMAL OWNERS FRANTICALLY TRYING TO TRACE A LOST PET. WE ALWAYS ASK THEM THE SAME QUESTION "IS YOUR DOG/CAT WEARING A COLLAR WITH AN IDENTITY DISK AND IS IT MICROCHIPPED?" IN 99,9 % OF THE CASES, THE REPLY IS "NO"  OR "MY DOG/CAT NEVER GETS OUT" OR "I JUST WASHED THE DOG/CAT AND FORGOT TO PUT THE COLLAR BACK ON," ETC.   WE GET SO ANGRY WITH OWNERS WHO ARE SO CASUAL ABOUT THEIR PET'S WELFARE.

ALL ANIMALS ADOPTED FROM ADOPT-A-PET MUST BE RETURNED TO ADOPT-A-PET IF THEIR OWNERS ARE UNABLE TO KEEP THEM.

URGENT NOTICE:

Adopt-a-Pet was forwarded an email today about an advert which appeared on Gumtree which stated that the Dog's owner named Liliana who had adopted a dog named MANGO from Adopt-a-Pet was looking for a home for Mango. Our adoption agreement which is signed by people who adopt a dog or cat from us, is a legal document.

WHY YOU SHOULD ADOPT A RESCUED DOG OR CAT

We get many people coming into our shelter supposedly to adopt one of our rescued dogs, puppies, kittens or cats and often we feel that our animals are like a Sunday "show house" on view, where people can pass the time looking at our beloved animals, with little intention of giving them a home.

SHONA HAS FOUND A LOVING HOME!

Adopt-a-Pet is happy to share the good news that  Shona has found a wonderful home with a very special new owner who wanted to adopt her  after reading her tragic story on our website.

Brave little SHONA fem puppy was hit by a taxi, received no veterinary treatment and her owners stopped feeding her

SHONA IS A BRAVE FOUR MONTH OLD FEMALE PUPPY, WHO WAS HIT BY A TAXI IN AN INFORMAL SETTLEMENT THREE WEEKS AGO.  HER OWNERS STOPPED FEEDING HER AND SHONA WAS IN SUCH PAIN THAT SHE CHEWED OFF HER DAMAGED LEG. SHE WAS RESCUED BY ADOPT-A-PET ON 20TH MAY 2011 AND RUSHED TO THE VETS WHO  HAVE BEEN HELPING US SINCE 1994.  SHE IS GENTLE AND SWEET AND EVEN MANAGES TO WAG HER TAIL. SHE IS HAVING AN OPERATION ON 23RD MAY AND THEREAFTER THE VETS SAY THAT SHE WILL MAKE A FULL RECOVERY.

IS YOUR DOG OR CAT WORTH R30,00 TO YOU?

HOW MUCH IS YOUR DOG OR CAT WORTH TO YOU? IS IT WORTH R30

If you answered "yes" then let me explain:  R30 could make all the difference in ensuring whether your beloved pet lives or dies.

ROBBEN ISLAND: PRISONERS FREED: ANIMALS SENTENCED TO DEATH

ROBBEN ISLAND PRISONERS FREED:  ANIMALS SENTENCED TO DEATH: THE TALLY IN FEBRUARY 2013 WAS 10 000 RABBITS KILLED, WHEN THE STERILISATION INJECTABLE DRUG WHICH WAS BOUGHT BUT NEVER USED IS ALLEGEDLY ROTTING ON THE SHELVES .  IT APPEARS THAT THE GUNMEN ENJOY THEIR HUNTING SPREES. WHY ELSE WOULD THEY KILL HELPLESS ANIMALS WHEN HUMANE ALTERNATIVES ARE AVAILABLE TO KEEP THE NUMBERS DOWN AND STOP THE BREEDING?  DON'T THESE LITTLE ANIMALS HAVE ANYONE TO CHAMPION THEIR CAUSE?  DO ALL THE HUNDREDS OF YEARS OF TENANCY COUNT FOR NOTHING?&n

MASSACRE OF ANIMALS ON ROBBEN ISLAND STARTED 12/10/2009

As this is being written, hired "career" gunmen are shooting "alien"animals on Robben Island, which started on 12th October, after the tourist buses leave, from dusk to dawn every day, until all are dead.   The "crime" that these animals have committed is that they are considered to be "aliens" and therefore not worthy of life.  What exactly is an "alien?"  The rabbits were brought to Robben Island in 1656, during Jan van Riebeeck's time, as a food source for the seamen on passing shi

DO ANIMALS HAVE A RIGHT TO LIFE?

The Question is often posed as to whether animals have a right to life. At Adopt-a-Pet all animals which come into our care are considered to be worthy of life. We do not have a "selection" policy which discards animals because they may be considered too young, or too old, or too ugly, or too sick, or "unhomeable."  We will do whatever is necessary to ensure that a rescued animal obtains the best veterinary and behaviourist treatment which may be required.
