WHY YOU SHOULD ADOPT A RESCUED DOG OR CAT

We get many people coming into our shelter supposedly to adopt one of our rescued dogs, puppies, kittens or cats and often we feel that our animals are like a Sunday "show house" on view, where people can pass the time looking at our beloved animals, with little intention of giving them a home. We are hoping for people to come to our shelter who genuinely want to rescue an animal, who has in many cases been snatched from the jaws of death, lovingly rehabilitated where necessary and who is ready to be part of a caring and responsible family.

Occasionally we get in those special people who ask about the dog or cat who has been with us the longest. Sometimes the people do not even want to choose an animal themselves. They ask us to choose for them. There are also those evolved people who take on a three legged or a blind animal.  This really raises our spirits because we truly believe that there is an owner for every dog and cat.  Times at present are very difficult. People are abandoning their animals everywhere. So many are being put down elsewhere with lethal injections, yet there are many people who want to adopt, but want the "perfect" animal.  Our plea is to visit our shelter and experience the absolute joy of adopting a rescued animal, who will give its heart and soul to its new owner. We also offer a "trial period" for two weeks, where the animal and the owner can get to know one another, without making an instant commitment, which scares many people.  As we never put down our animals, unless they are terminally ill, a trial period works very well and the new owner does not feel "trapped" into taking a dog or cat which the owner may feel could be  inappropriate.

However, in every case, if needed, we have experts to iron out any behavioural snags which may arise.
We are hoping that people who read this blog, will phone Adopt-a-Pet on 021 465-4560 and come to view our special animals with the full intention of not leaving without having applied to adopt one of them.  Please note that home inspections are done before an adoption is finalised. This is done within as short a time as possible, on the same day or the next day.

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THERE ARE MANY DESPERATE ANIMALS WAITING IN THE WINGS TO BE RESCUED AND WHOSE LIVES ARE IN DANGER.  WE URGENTLY NEED TO MAKE SPACE FOR THEM TO SAVE THEIR LIVES.  ONLY YOU CAN HELP US ACHIEVE THIS BY ADOPTING FROM US.

IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL PLEASE ASSIST US WITH KENNELLING FEES TO ENABLE US TO BOARD SURPLUS ANIMALS IN PRIVATE BOARDING FACILITIES. OUR SHELTER IS SMALL AND WE URGENTLY NEED TO RELOCATE TO LARGER PREMISES.

We are looking forward to  your call on 021 465-4560 or leave a message.

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS APPEAL.
