THE SHAME OF OUR THROW-AWAY SOCIETY.

WENDY WAS ABANDONED BY HER OWNER. Fortunately she is safe at Adopt-a-Pet until she is adopted and we appeal to cat lovers to visit her and to apply to adopt her.

ADOPT-A-PET receives about 10 calls a day from people who no longer want to keep their cats or kittens for spurious reasons.  Cats are such special, sensitive and intuitive creatures. They are so dignified and caring of their kittens and family groups, yet they are discarded just like garbage. They are dumped in rubbish bins, thrown out of cars, their kittens are drowned or discarded in plastic bags, starved, burnt alive - the list is endless.  Adopt-a-Pet had an experience recently with a young rescued teenage cat called Lollipop who took very ill late on a sunday evening. Lollipop wouldn't eat or drink, his fur was lacklustre and he was clearly fading.  He was then approached by his father (Zen) who climbed into his basket and started grooming him over and over and over until Lollipop's fur was wet with saliva.  A rescued semi feral female cat called Estelle then approached the basket containing Zen and Lollipop and tentatively put her front paw on Lollipop's shoulder and climbed into the basket with both Zen and Lollipop.  She also started grooming Lollipop.  I watched them for about 30 minutes and then left the room. About two hours later at 2am,  I came downstairs to see how Lollipop was doing. The other cats had all jumped onto the table and had encircled and were quietly watching the basket where  Zen and Estelle were still grooming Lollipop. I quietly left the room and in the morning I went to check whether Lollipop had made it through the night.  To my amazement, he was up and about, eating and drinking as though nothing had been amiss the night before.  His fur was soft and he has never looked back since.  Yet these amazing animals are treated with such disdain and so many end up dying by lethal injection.  The people who want their children to see how a litter is born, should be present when the life drains out of their eyes after a lethal injection.  We appeal to animal owners to take on an animal for life. Only in this way can they be safe and secure until the end of their lives.  They deserve so much more  than what they are getting.
