ADOPT-A-PET (barely) SURVIVED ITS MOVE TO NEW PREMISES

HAVING (BARELY ) SURVIVED OUR RELOCATION TO NEW PREMISES, WE WOULD LIKE TO ADVISE ANYONE WHO MAY BE CONSIDERING MOVING, TO ASK YOURSELVES IF IT IS A GOOD IDEA. ADOPT-A-PET'S MOVE TO NEW PREMISES WAS VERY VERY DIFFICULT, BUT WE MADE IT AND ARE NOW VERY BUSY TRYING TO STRAIGHTEN OUT EVERYTHING. THE REMOVAL TRUCKS JUST DUMPED EVERYTHING WHEREVER THERE WAS AN OPEN SPACE AND AT THE SAME TIME WE WERE PUTTING UP RUNS AND KENNELS FOR THE DOGS AND TRYING TO CONVERT A SHED INTO A CATTERY AND AN OFFICE. WE WOULD NEVER HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT THE HELP OF SOME VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE, WHO WORKED NON-STOP TO PACK UP OUR ANIMALS AND OUR GOODS AND TO DISMANTLE OUR STRUCTURES WHICH WERE TO BE ERECTED AGAIN AT OUR NEW PREMISES. HEREWITH SOME OF THE PEOPLE WHO WENT THE EXTRA MILE (KILOMETRE) TO ENSURE THAT WE VACATED OUR OLD PREMISES IN MILNERTON ON TIME AND WHO HELPED ENSURE THAT ALL OUR STRUCTURES WOULD BE READY AT OUR NEW PLACE: PHILIPPE FROM BELGIUM, YOU ARE UNDOUBTEDLY OUR HERO - INSTEAD OF WINDSURFING THE WAVES, YOU SPENT MOST OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME IN SOUTH AFRICA VOLUNTEERING AT ADOPT-A-PET, DISMANTLING, RE-ERECTING, FETCHING, CARRYING, BUILDING, DAY AFTER DAY FROM EARLY UNTIL DUSK, NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH FOR YOU AND ALWAYS WITH A SMILE AND A GENTLE VOICE. IN YOUR HONOUR, WE WILL BE FLYING THE BELGIAN FLAG AT OUR NEW ENTRANCE. WE CAN FORESEE THAT YOU WILL BE RUSHING FROM OUR BUILDING SITE TO CATCH YOUR PLANE BACK HOME ON MONDAY 24TH MARCH. HOW WILL WE MANAGE WITHOUT YOU? DESIREE, OUR SUPERVISOR, FOR PACKING UP, TIDYING, SEEING THAT THE MOVE WAS AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE, MAINTAINING ORDER WITH OUR RECORDS AND MEDICATIONS, ENSURING THAT THE PLACE WAS LEFT TIDY AND CLEAN AS BEST YOU COULD AFTER 12 YEARS. NOT TO MENTION THE UNPACKING OF BOXES AND BLACK BAGS AT THE OTHER END, WHILE PUTTING UP WITH THE DUST DURING BUILDING OPERATIONS WHICH WENT ON ALL AROUND YOU, WHILE DEVOTEDLY ATTENDING TO OUR CATS AND KITTENS, DOGS AND PUPPIES. OUR VOLUNTEERS FROM SWEET HOME FARM IN PHILIPPI AND FROM THE WINDERMERE HIGH SCHOOL IN FACTRETON, WHO NOT ONLY TURNED UP TO HELP WITHOUT BEING ASKED, RESPLENDENT IN YOUR ADOPT-A-PET T-SHIRTS, BUT WHO ALSO BROUGHT ALONG PARENTS, FAMILY AND NEIGHBOURS TO HELP US DISMANTLE FENCES AND WENDY HOUSES, TIDY OUR THREE CAT SECTIONS LEAVING THEM SPIC AND SPAN, WITH BLANKETS NEATLY FOLDED AND PACKED READY FOR THE MOVE. YOU THEN MOVED TO OUR NEW PLACE AND HELPED WITH EVERYTHING IN REVERSE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEVOTION AND FOR COMING EVERY WEEKEND TO HELP. THANK YOU ROXANNE FOR HELPING TO TRANSPORT THE CATS, FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN DONATING SO MANY USEFUL ITEMS AND LOCKERS AND FOR USING YOUR INGENUITY TO TURN OUR BIG BARN INTO A COMFORTABLE AREA FOR OUR CATS AND KITTENS. THANK YOU ONE AND ALL. WE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT WITHOUT YOUR HELP. TO JOE, FRANCIS AND BERNARD, OUR MUCH APPRECIATED KENNEL ASSISTANTS FOR HELPING UNSTINTINGLY WITH THE MOVE PLEASE PHONE ADOPT-A-PET ON 021 465-4560 (19H00 - 20H30) IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP, AS THERE IS STILL SO MUCH TO BE DONE. WE URGENTLY NEED DOG KENNELS IN ALL SIZES AND IN GOOD CONDITION, PEOPLE WITH BUILDING EXPERIENCE TO FINISH REPAIRING OUR CATTERY AND KENNELS AND WENDY HOUSES FOR OUR DOGS, BUILDING SLEEPING QUARTERS TO OUR KENNEL ASSISTANTS WHO HAVE FOLLOWED US TO OUR NEW PREMISES, WINDOWS WITH GLASS PANES FOR OUR OFFICE AND CATTERY, WEATHERPROOF SHELTERS FOR OUR DOGS, TILING THE FLOORS OF OUR OFFICE AND CATTERY. DO YOU HAVE SPARE BRICKS (1/2 BRICKS WOULD DO WELL) TO PAVE OUR (SWEEPING) DRIVEWAY, WHICH WE HOPE TO LINE WITH TREES ON BOTH SIDES. OUR AIM: WE WOULD LIKE ADOPT-A-PET TO BECOME A SHOW PLACE TO PROMOTE OUR "PRO-LIFE" POLICY AND TO SUPPORT OUR YOUTH ENRICHMENT PROGRAMMES IN SWEET HOME FARM IN PHILIPPI AND IN FACTRETON WHERE THERE ARE NO FACILITIES FOR ANIMALS. IN FACT, THE TERRIBLE SADNESS IS THAT THERE ARE NO AFFORDABLE VETERINARY FACILITIES AFTER HOURS OR ON WEEKENDS FOR PEOPLE WHO CARE DEEPLY FOR THEIR ANIMALS BUT HAVE NOWHERE TO TAKE THEM AT PRICES WHICH THEY CAN AFFORD TO PAY. ADOPT-A-PET IS CALLED OUT AT ALL HOURS TO HELP ANIMALS THAT ARE HIT BY CARS, OR SERIOUSLY ILL - IF WE DID NOT HELP, THEY WOULD REMAIN UNTREATED AND DIE SLOWLY WITHOUT TREATMENT. WHY IS THERE NO ROVING AMBULANCE, SPONSORED BY A DIFFERENT ANIMAL SOCIETY EACH NIGHT SEVEN TIMES A WEEK AND ON WEEKENDS AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. PLEASE PHONE US ON 021 465-4560 OR LEAVE A MESSAGE FOR MORE INFO. ALTHOUGH WE ARE SOMEWHAT OFF THE BEATEN TRACK, WE CAN MEET YOU ALONG THE WAY OR PROVIDE YOU WITH VERY GOOD DIRECTIONS. WE HAVE ALREADY ADOPTED OUT 5 KITTENS, 3 PUPPIES AND 5 ADULT DOGS. ONCE WE HAVE FINISHED BUILDING, WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED WITH OUR NEW PREMISES WHICH ARE A BIG IMPROVEMENT ON OUR PREVIOUS CRAMPED ACCOMMODTION WHICH WE OUTGREW A LONG TIME AGO. YET THOSE VERY PREMISES HAVE SAVED THE LIVES OF APPROXIMATELY 4000 ANIMALS , WHO WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE DIED WITHOUT OUR INTERVENTION. WE HAVE A BIG SELECTION OF BEAUTIFUL DOGS, CATS, PUPPIES AND KITTENS FOR ADOPTION AND PROBABLYTHE BIGGEST CHOICE OF SOUTH AFRICA'S OWN INDIGENOUS PEDIGREED DOG - THE CANIS AFRICANIS! THEY ARE A STRONG, HEALTHY, MEDIUM SIZED SHORT COATED MEDIUM SIZED BREED USUALLY LIGHT TAN OR BRINDLE IN COLOUR, FAITHFUL, FRIENDLY, HARDY, DISEASE RESISTANT AND HIGHLY INTELLIGENT. WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR SUPPORT AND HOPE YOU WILL ADOPT ONE OF OUR BEAUTIFUL DOGS OR CATS.
